Great tool to copy websites

Ever look for a way to easily copy a website (mirror) to your local system? Look no further!!!

HTTrack is a free (GPL, libre/free software) and easy-to-use offline browser utility.

It allows you to download a World Wide Web site from the Internet to a local directory, building recursively all directories, getting HTML, images, and other files from the server to your computer. HTTrack arranges the original site's relative link-structure. Simply open a page of the "mirrored" website in your browser, and you can browse the site from link to link, as if you were viewing it online. HTTrack can also update an existing mirrored site, and resume interrupted downloads. HTTrack is fully configurable, and has an integrated help system.

WinHTTrack is the Windows 9x/NT/2000/XP release of HTTrack, and WebHTTrack the Linux/Unix/BSD release. See the download page.

Dealing with questionable companies - Bad Business

Ever deal with companies the "just aren't right"? This is a rant that you will see from time to time with what we encounter in consulting. What ever happened to the days when you offered a product and/or service and actually delivered it?

One of our clients leased a website development from
www.webleaseusa.com (prior to them becoming our client). In addition, it appears that they are subbing out the hosting to http://www.enertiatech.com/. We are in the process of adding email enhancements and redirecting DNS & MX records for them. One thing we found (as many of you have or will) is that using templates and web hosting companies leaves a lot more to be desired. Aside from the layout that you do not own, the hours and time to put up content and images takes a while. In addition, when you want to move your website all you can take is the content and images.

Once we take over the DNS (away from the "leasing host"), the website will not function. This is because most companies like this do virtual hosting and do not give the clients static IP addresses. Thus, changing DNS from them drops the website. Plus, who in the heck wants there web hosting company controlling the email direction.

With that being said, the client requested to buy the development from the above company. There response was,

"If you are asking about purchasing the actual website HTML and CSS files used in your website (the actual website coding), that is something we do not offer to our customers. However, you are welcome to pull the images that you have provided or text from the website and use them however you would like."

Ok, we understand that having another company provide service comes at a price. But, the next steps taken from the company was to hijack the clients account at the registrar (Network Solutions). Want to talk about low, that's just underhanded!!!

Needless to say, the efforts have been thwarted and control once again established...

Avoiding the Spam Filters and Other Email Marketing Tips

Email marketing, as many of us know, can be a powerful, inexpensive method of reaching our most active potential or existing customers. It can boost not only our direct sales, but also our credibility and referrals.

One of the major benefits of email marketing is that email is free, but obviously this is the same reason why spam has become so popular and so frustrating. With spam comes spam filters and with spam filters comes the blocking of legitimate
email.

Eddie Machaalani writes a great article on direct email marketing and how to avoid SPAM filters. We found this article while doing some investigation for a client. Their opt-in email marketing is being filtered. By following the article, you will have a much better understanding of how to send email to those that will benefit most.
